Saber. Ah yes, Saber.

Without a doubt one of the most popular and merchandised character known to Anime. Her number of merchandises rivals that of Hatsune Miku, I think, ..maybe?

In any case, this is TheFlyingSuns and welcome to my in depth look at Saber, Arthur Pendragon. I specifically mentioned Arthur Pendragon because Saber can also refer to the other individual Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus (I copied & pasted this name from wiki btw).

The red Saber on the left is Nero and the blue Saber on the right is Arthur, the one we’ll be talking about today and one we’ll refer to when we say “Saber.” And sit tight and enjoy the show, this will be a pretty long and hopefully fun ride.

The Fate Series currently has three main 25-ish episode anime titles. Fate Stay Night by Studio DEEN back in 2006, the prequel Fate/Zero by Ufotable in 2011, and the Ufotable adaptation on the Unlimited Blade Works route was aired in 2014 for the first season and the second season airing and finishing the series in 2015. Ufotable is most likely also going to adapt Heaven’s Feel route in the future and I heard it’s going to be in movies form but we’ll see. And the fate series has spin-offs here and there, such as Carnival Phantasm and Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya.

Of course the Fate series also has a mountain load of light novels and visual novels among other forms of media I’m sure. I personally have experienced the English translated visual novel of Fate Stay Night and it was AWESOME. By the way the visual novel of Fate Stay night has three routes(Fate, Unlimited Blade Works, and Heaven’s Feel), with each route focusing on one of the three main heroines of Fate Stay Night, Saber included.

So basically the setting of Fate Stay Night, Fate/Zero, and probably other Fate titles is that once every couple of decades there are seven Masters, humans with varying degrees of magical abilities, that are called by the Holy Grail to summon their own respective Seven Servants. And each Masters with their own one Servant will fight each other to the death until only one Master and his/her Servant is left. The last standing pair will be the Winner and they will be granted any one wish by the Holy Grail.

The numbers aren’t always exactly Seven since there are plot twists along the way but that’s the gist of it. The Servants summoned are actually significant historical figures called into one of the seven classes, each with their own special abilities and attributes. The Seven classes that I know of are: Rider, Archer, Berserker, Caster, Assassin, Lancer, and of course, Saber.

Of course the identity of Saber, Arthur Pendragon, is none other than the legendary King Arthur of Britain. Saber is often known as one of the most well rounded and most powerful Servant of them all. The one wish that she wants granted by the Holy Grail is to save Britain, or more specifically, the Britain in her time period.

Now let us talk a little bit about her legendary equipments.

The sword on the left is Caliburn with its scabbard, and on the right is Excalibur with Avalon, Excalibur’s scabbard.

Caliburn, according to wiki, was the sword Saber used when she was still alive and it was the sword she pulled out of the stone which changed her life forever.

Excalibur is the sword Saber fights with as a Servant along with Avalon.

Notice Saber in this scene has Excalibur in its invisible form. That is because the sword itself gives away her identity to the enemy which will in turn reveal her weakness. So she will only reveal the sword itself when she uses her ultimate attack move, which goes by the same name of Excalibur.

The scabbard Avalon grants powerful automatic healing abilities to whoever that possesses it as well as delay aging.

Saber has an outstanding resistance to magical attacks.

Before we move on, let me mention this.

Dat Ekusukariba

Each hero summoned have their own special move, often referred to as Noble Phantasm. And Saber’s is the attack I just mentioned, Excalibur, or E KU SU—–  KA RI BAAAAAAA!

It works very similarly to Kurosaki Ichigo’s Getsuga Tenshou. Saber swings her sword with all her might, and from the sword she releases a massive amount of energy that deals damage on a colossal scale.

In Fate/Zero, Saber’s Master is Emiya Kiritsugu, the man in black. And his wife, Irisviel Von Einzbern. Look at that snazzy black suit.

“Are you my Master?” -Saber

And in Fate Stay Night her master is the teenager Emiya Shirou.

By the way all the characters I just mentioned, Kiritsugu, Shirou, and Irisviel all have figmas released. Though Shirou’s figma was released a loooooooong time ago and he’s mega expensive now, maybe a 2.0 release with the upcoming new anime? Pleeeeeeeeeeease GSC? One can hope 😀

One more thing, Saber particularly likes lions. I mean, just look at this nendoroid.

Now let’s take a look at the large selections of figmas of Saber released shall we?

First is Saber in her iconic armor with the blue dress.

This version was first released in 2008 I believe and had a re-release few years later. It was also the third figma released, with the serial number of 003.

Dual wielding Saber, how badass is that!?

Next is Saber in her Casual outfit often seen when she’s not fighting in Fate Stay Night.

This one was released in November of 2009.

And the guy would be Emiya Shirou in his figma form.

This one is Saber Alter, the form she takes on when she gets corrupted by darkness in one of the routes in the Fate Stay Night visual novel.

Released in July of 2010.

Btw her sword is B-E-A-UTIFUL!!!!!!!!

This one is Saber in her snazzy black suit from Fate/Zero.

Released in October of 2012.

The transparent sword is for when Saber is using Invisible Air to hide Excalibur from plain sight.

Oh dang, Saber in her Snazzy black suit with a Snazzy bike from Fate/Zero.

Speaking of the bike,

the official release name is:

ex:ride Spride.05 : Saber Motored Cuirassier

Released October 2012, same as Saber Zero of course.

And then there’s Saber 2.0 with saber once again in her iconic armor and blue dress. I remember she went through alot of delays before she was finally released.  The goodsmile company websites lists her release date as January of 2015.

Dat Blush

Special Effect parts if you order directly from Good Smile Company.

Also GSC posted a warning about a plastic wrap on Saber 2.0’s waist joint.

And I think that’s all the regular releases so far for Saber. But guess what?

There’s more, of course.

This is Saber Lily, a SP release that comes exclusively with the PSP game Fate Unlimited Codes. Released around 2008.

And then there’s the EX release of Saber in her blue dress without the armor. Her release date according to GSC is February of 2015.

For completion’s sake I will also mention the figmas released for Nero, the other lesser known Saber.

This is Saber Extra exclusive with the PSP game Fate Extra. Released in 2010.

Lastly this is Saber Bride exclusive with the PSP game Fate Extra CCC. Released in 2013, March.

Whew….. and that’s Saber, Arthur Pendragon with a tiny bit of Nero.

I think I covered all the figma releases for Saber. Hopefully that was a helpful post.

Thanks for reading and good hunting!
